Help us make it a reality!

How can the community benefit from a whitewater park?

  • It would provide yet another recreational option for residents
  • It would create a destination for enthusiasts from outside the area, even from neighboring states
  • It would create revenue for local businesses by attracting consumers from outside the area
  • It would improve the aquatic ecosystem

Important!

Everyone who is concerned about Oil City's waterways and how we can improve access and safety, and introduce recreational activities that can benefit the local economy needs to attend the public meeting on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the National Transit Building in Oil City. The engineers working on this study need your input! This is a key piece to the puzzle for getting financial and political support for waterway and riverfront improvements in the city.

USACE CRREL Update

In October of 2006 Andy Tuthill of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory met with Oil City government and visited Oil Creek. Download Andy's report on his visit here.

September 9th, 2006 Paddle-In

Our first paddle-in on the Allegheny River at Oil City in Justus Park was a great success, in spite of a nasty storm that rolled in mid-day. The river was too flat for some good wave action, but everyone who paddled had a good time demonstrating moves and entertaining the public.

On July 3, 2007, we raffled off this Necky Manitou Sport, complete with paddle and PFD, courtesy of Wiegel Brothers Marine, and the lucky winner was Joe Stahlman of Oil City.

January 2007 Kayak Raffle Winner

The winning ticket for this Old Town Rush recreational kayak was drawn at midnight during Oil City First Night, on New Years Eve. And the winner is... Lynn Moss of Emlenton.

Here is Lynn with her fiance Nate Lawrence as they pick up their prize.  Thanks to Wiegel Brothers Marine for the package with a retail value over $500. All proceeds from the raffle will go toward the whitewater project.
